Brainstorming on Violence

I read an article the other day that classified the reasoning for teen violence into 6 different categories. What are some possible reasons you can think of concerning why violence continues in our society today? Why do people "choose" violence? Do you think it is a choice?

  4. Good thoughts! I do think some people are born with more violent tendencies, but I also believe that one's environment can contribute to their actions. However, neither of those are ever an excuse for acting violent.

Why do you think people are violent? What are the reasons they might give?

  6. Teens probably think that violence is cool because it is in TV and video games. They make violence look like something that is okay and want to do it in real life.

  7. I think when it comes to anger it can't be helped. violence is a way of getting rid of anger. In some cases I don't think its a choice at some point everyone has acted in anger without thinking. Its almost like anger comes before thought.

  8. people pick on each other because sometimes they don't feel good about themselves it makes them feel more powerful over the other person.
    Thus making them feel better.

  9. Matt, I really liked the statement you made "It's almost like anger comes before thought." That is so true! This is why so many people have to get help to re-channel their thoughts when they are angry to avoid acting on impulse.
